YATES, DANE;
[taiji] / [taiji player] 2014
an electroacoustic work for found metal objects, electronic drumkit + kontakt app (and electronics)
Samples and Processing by Dane P. Yates
Kontakt App authored and scripted Matthew B. Wilding
Recorded at BandMate Studios by Lachlan Jamieson
“Notationally, this piece is quite unscored and a very open work for player performance and improvisation with the instrumentation given to them. For this piece, the performer will need a copy of [taiji player] a kontakt app to be mapped to an electronic drumkit. Other instruments used can be any found metallic objects as well as further manipulations and processing of the sound and space keeping true to the story of Taiji and the information given to you. Before performance, the performer should learn to utilize all expressions and effects of the [taiji player]. The total length of the piece can remain up to the performers interpretation of the score. The found metal objects should be quite piercing and have a long decay on them.”
taiji is a piece that deals with minimal scoring. The piece entails a structured improvisation for electronic drumkit, using a kontakt app I developed. Included in the score, is a brief history and synopsis of Taiji, I include this in the score in the hope that performers take consideration of the town during the performance. The samples in the app feature both raw and processed dolphin samples. Processing of the samples includes AM Synthesis, RM Synthesis, FM Synthesis, Granular Synthesis as well as a mix of effect chains.
